The Melting Pot NYC “A Trip Through the Poppy Fields” when: Friday 5.28 where: Big Six (upstairs) 97 Bowery (Btwn Hester and Grand St.) price: $3 with rsvp/$5 at door links: www.themeltingpotnyc.com The integration of live performance, dance music and film is a way to get the festivities started for the Memorial Day weekend. This edition of The Melting Pot NYC features a poetry slam by Kai Adwoa who brings the legions on “A Trip Through the Poppy Fields”. Kai creative expressions abound in her life’s choices of actress, spoken word artist, teacher and writer. Her book “Whispers Roar; Roars Whisper”, the written display of 60 poems, lends particular insight to provocative dynamics and takes turns with humor, despair, sexual inclinations and lust tempted by sensual indifference and utter passion. The visuals this time bring the cherished favorite, the perennial fantasy film musical film classic “The Wizard of OZ” to the screen. Remember Dorothy and her band of misfits running through the fields. Once you arrive at OZ you draw the curtain and find none other than resident DJ Kervyn Mark, veteran of the underground dance music scene granting wishes by spinning choice soulful dance music. The selections should make you click your red dancing shoes 3 times and make you scream out “there is no place like home, there is no place like home, there is no...” So dress to sweat. The music won’t stop unless you do. To rsvp e-mail to info@themeltingpotnyc.com Note: Drink specials until 11:30pm |
