Poet
Trinidad
born Ozymajic is a true Rapso soldier.
His music transcends the traditional definition of The power of the
word in the rhythm of the word. For years he has also embraced The power
of the dance crafting solid lyrical offerings that sit on bouncy bass
lines flavoured with fiery hooks that serve to ignite real communication
with the music masses. Living what he calls the DOPLIFE Ozymajic is
a writer, teacher, composer, producer, artist and performer. Country
born (Sangre Grande to be exact), Majic can boast of a varied and extensive
repertoire and a pretty impressive resume. His rhythmic road had taken
him to new vistas of imagination and has allowed him to innovate and
collaborate, resulting now in a creative fullness that his time effort
and experience has brought. Music is a spiritual force He says, We are
jus the conduits; with a responsibility to craft this power into something
useful and substantial and true. Rapso is the music of rebellion and
the music of resistance. However this potent form has not always been
successful at enlisting new recruits to its fold and for its cause.
This changed in the mid 90s with the unbridled charge of groups like
Kindred, Ghettorians and the ozy-led outfit known as Homefront best
known for the vanguard tracks Free Yuh Self and Rollin). With a few
hits under their belt in a short space in time the group split after
a few years and ozymajic grabbed the reigns of the still fledging vibe
steering it into the new millennium. Now with the title of producer
added to his portfolio, Majic has made significant inroads into the
local and international markets, with his Riddims as well as his raps.
Recently involved with the creation and commercial release of the ROLL
ON riddim, Majic has worked with some major names including: Maximus
Dan, Andyventure, New York Hip Hop Star Black Child, Jamaican Artist
Nardo Ranks and others. A poet at heart, Ozys love for language has
also seen him composing for other artist including the hit Follow Me
for Tony Prescott, Wake Up for Fate and many other songs and artists
(look out for BLACK CARPET from Precious, CARNIVAL 2007) Following an
impressive carnival season which saw his single REAL TRINIS receiving
widespread radio and video airplay Ozymajic is currently working on
more material. Ozymajic has consistently released music in and out of
the carnival season. Aiming to lead by example and seed a new movement
to stimulate a year round music industry, Mr Majic has recently spread
out into radio broadcasting now the host of his very own Rapso radio
show, THE MICSTAND on Trini Bashment 91.9 every Monday from 11 am to
1 pm. He insists that; Rapso needs to be re-defined as to what it come
to do. We all know what it is. Rapso is a way to connect with other
emerging forms on the Diaspora, among other things, it is also the primary
means by which we could achieve year round music activity and not just
for a season. So throw your hands in the air and welcome this original
Rapso rhymester, the first chart climber. A man on a mission to take
his music to the world.
